Sorry, that is incorrect *!lol!* , automatic updates are a feature of all versions - I run both home and pro.

You can stop automatic updates if you want and install what you want as and when.

Windows 10 did NOT cause the issue.
That is between NVidia and TS2016 and the problem has been reported to DTG and NVidia.
Plus it can easily be remedied in TS 2016 using the NVCP.

I didn't say automatic updates were only a feature of Win 10 home, I only meant that Windows 10 Home is apparently the only one that Forces the updates, were as the other versions allow you to stop them and choose like in Win 7 Home.
I also keep reading that Windows 10 home will let you delay the updates but not turn them down forever. It will eventually force the drivers on you.
There is a lot of talk about this in gaming forums.
I keep reading, that only Win 10 Pro and Enterprise users have full control.

In any case, if it isn't Windows 10, then why do people with 8.1 and earlier not have any complaints about this Peter???
It is arguable that Nvidia is part of the problem with there frequent driver mods that cater to whoever is paying them the highest amount of money to optimize things for their specific game or sim.

Look at the changes in the drivers. Nvidia actually admits to the "optimizations for certain games" It's in the release notes.
In any case I'm adopting a new strategy.

Eric
I didn't say automatic updates were only a feature of Win 10 home, I only meant that Windows 10 Home is apparently the only one that Forces the updates, were as the other versions allow you to stop them and choose like in Win 7 Home.

That is not correct. The first version of Win 10 that I upgraded to was Win 10 pro from win 8.1 upd1 Pro.
The first time that I tried to run TS2016 - I couldn't - because it was using 100% cpu resources and taking several minutes to load or crash.
What had happened was that Win 10 pro had installed the latest NVidia driver (353.xx series) the day after the update AUTOMATICALLY and this caused howls of protest throughout the gaming world, as it did corrupt lots of games etc. MS quickly fixed it but kept automatic updates. To fix it for me, I had to manually reinstall the 350.xx drivers so that TS 2016 would work again. That's when we all started looking for a way to stop automatic updates of NVidia drivers.

As someone who uses Win 10 pro you do NOT have the same control wrt updates as you did in Windows 7/8. I am of the opinion that automatic updates are an anathema and should be banned, but win 10 did not cause the driver issue with TS2016, wrt 2D map corruption in TS2016.

The best tool you can get for Win 10 which does give similar control in all matters like Win 7+ is Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.0 - it really tames Win 10. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate- ... windows-10

Sure there you can stop/hide auto updates in win 7, 8, 8.1, 8.1Upd1 but if you download the latest drivers from NVidia yourself and use them in these OS's - you will still get a corruption of the 2D map as I have described above and elsewhere if you use SSAA settings in TS 2016. Anything post the 350.xx drivers (ie 353.xx onward) will give you this 2D map corruption (as explained above) irrespective of your OS.

Now if you look at posts on the web everyone is complaining ie win 7 users that unless you uninstall one MS update you get a "nag" screen asking you to update to win 10. To me that is wrong and should be stopped.

Windows 10 is not a bad OS nor is it a brilliant one but it does have some great features that can help in sims like TS 2016 (FX, X-Plane, etc). Most of the rhetoric here is sadly from people who haven't tried it or persevered with it. I still use Win 7 and 8.1 Upd 1 on my other PC's but I don't think that earlier versions of Windows are so good that I would want to can Win 10 on my gaming PC and go back to them.

Well I submit that NVidia does gear themselves to do drivers for popular games but not because they are getting paid but because this makes their driver work better with popular games therefore making people more likely to buy their video cards. What a concept and a long way from the idea that the evil corporation is doing it because someone is lining their pockets.

The bottom line is this for me.
Can a person now refuse mandatory driver updates in 10? Is that Microsoft's "fix"?

It's all interesting.
They optimize for games like World of Warcraft, but I hear from local gamers that they own far more older games that are getting bugged by newer drivers, and that has them ticked off.
So, Nvidia is sacrificing the many in the name of the few.
Apparently I'm an oddball because I only have the one sim, but others I'm talking to have many games and sims they have accumulated, and apparently a lot of their favorite titles are now messed up.

Why the devil does Microsoft have any business updating other's drivers, it's just asking for trouble.

I have just played Mass Effect 2 and now playing version 3 with no problems with the latest drivers. Also playing Homeworld from Steam with no problems.
