Need to revive a beaten horse...

I am working on the blueprints for the GP40-2 and most of the simulation talks we have here makes sense and line up with the RS Docs that I digesting (its like eating a brick), but I am running into a problem. In the blueprint editor I see that settings like Max Power and Max Force are expressed as HP and Lb/f, whereas the conversations and documentation call out kw and kN. Has the blueprint editor changed?

If I look at the recently released GP38-2 I can see HP as 2000 (correct) but MaxForce is 105 which doesn't seem to translate anywhere near 61,000 lbf (61,000 lbf = 271.341519 kN).

Going through my notes, I think I found that MaxForce is the tractive effort in lb/f divided by 1000, so I'd have expected the GP38-2 to be 61, not 105.

I just remembered something else too ... I did a lot of trials to check the performance of the Connie against a very complicated formula that predicts (with considerable accuracy) where a steam-hauled train (the formula is in a technical publication from 1920) would come to a standstill if it entered a certain uphill grade at a certain speed, with a consist of X number of cars, in certain weather conditions. What I found was that I could get the loco to stall at the right spot if I lowered the MaxForce value by one third. You might want to try that if you feel that the loco is overpowered even if you put in the right theoretical value for MaxForce.

Mike lead me in the correct direction. I think I have the "power" adjusted correctly (ruffly 2 GP40's will work a bit less than 3 GP7's), and the DB does not stop on a dime (though it will bring the train to a stop), thought the train brakes are a bit too powerful. If I can get the gauges to all work then I can debug this better.

*sigh*

When the cab is done I will make another movie and post it up on the VRC site.

One thing I look foreword to each weekend is a progress report on the GP-40. I appreciate all the work going into this project,and hope to be one of the first to purchase one.
