Union Pacific SD40-2 Retexture?

Unread postby Alpenfreight » Sun Jul 19, 2015 11:21 am

Hello All,

I have seen some retextures for the Union Pacific SD40-2 to more accurate colors, but none of them replace the default one. Are there any files out there that do this, or is there an easy way to do this myself? This engine looks so off in my opinion, it's really immersion breaking.

IMO, it doesn't look off, it looks realistic for an engine with 15 - 20 years of service.
In comparison to most of the clean and sterile DLC, it does stand out, so in that way you are right.

There are at least two other default UP SD40-2's. The Sherman Hill one is the newest and cleanest in appearance.

With weathering, graffiti and snow accumulation it is either all engines and cars, or none IMO. I don't like the hodgege podge effect of photo repaints mixed with pristine stock DLC.

Yes but if you spent much time trackside that is exactly what you see at least with UP a mixture of recent paints and weathered ones.

I think the biggest problem is that it just doesn't match the other locos. Is there a way to swap out which texture the default locos use?

No, I don't think that is possible as there could be subtle differences as to how the texture is mapped to the body, so "it won't fit".
There are various repaints available, as Buzz pointed out.
Other than that, you can swap the whole loco for the other UP one that came with the US Loco and Asset pack. Or you could use the one from Sherman Hill if you own that route.

I'm currently also trying to find the right UP color for my engine but alternatively there's a UP SD40-2 repaint available by Jessie using the old kuju model if you're really looking for a replacement:

In my opinion, the best UP 'Armour Yellow' used so far is the color on EYEIN12's B40-8.

Yellow and red wash out a lot on engines.
This is why CN has pink GP9s.

So maybe my problem is that every other UP engine looks too new. Has anyone made some washed out textures for these? The ones in the UP mega-pack are very dark

Hi guys,

I am working on the old Kudju one. It's far from perfect but I am learning how to reskin stuff with RS2015.
Strangely, the Diffuse2 texture appear way to bright in the game and I don't know why. Maybe it's the alpha or something as other diffuse are not so shiny. So if someone know a solution please do not hesitate to tell me where I am wrong.
Here are some pics for now. Far from finished of course. I plan to do later some leasing units too.

Looking good. The Dirtier and weathered the better.

If you want it to be less shiny darken the alpha and it will take the shine away.
