Hot metal slab cars WIP

Hi all,

Here are some shots of some hot metal slab cars I've been working on. They will come with 3 types of loads and can be placed loaded or empty. Looking for some critiques about colors and such. PM me if you want to beta test...

Are these general interchange cars? Or internal steelworks service only? I don't think hot metal slabs are allowed outside the works when their lading is more than hot to the touch.

When they are confined to internal service, they probably have very simple paint scheme and lettering and are generally very dirty and rusty.
I imagine them having yellow sides when new, but now are grimy to being almost brown/black.

Kanawah: These are probably non-interchange cars. The Union RR in Pittsburgh runs them from the continuous caster to the rolling mill and back and they never leave that part of the route, luckily it runs through the car shops, so repair isn't an issue. The prototypes have no real stenciling other than the word HOT and the reporting marks. The paint on the ends gets so hot it blisters and flakes off, so they have fresh rust on them all the time.

The ones the Union uses has URR marked on the sides and yes not for interchange. Usually the metal slabs are grey in color.

Watch the video. Now some I had seen a while back just plainly said URR and HOT. So its mix and match.

The Union still uses cabooses since their trains are set up for remote control.

Union RR runs partly over the Bontempo's P&LE.
Those switchers run on Blomberg trucks, are these models available? MP15's I believe?

Does Union RR also run liquid iron torpedo trains?

P&LE is such a promising route in principle, but needs a lot work to bring it up to scratch.

I dont think the Union runs hot metal trains anymore, all that is done at the Edgar Thompson works internally, now the hot slabs come from there go across the Monongahela river to the Mon valley works to be finished.
I agree the P&LE route is a mess but could be promising if the era of 1970s is set and built upon that.
P&LE not only did movements for J&L to and from Aliquippa and south side works but also the Wheeling Pittsburgh steel mill in Monessen Pa. Plus a bunch of interchange with USS (United States Steel) McKeesport Pa.

No, I have not really seen the Steelworks pack, other than the thumbnail on his page. This is a model based on the ones I've seen on the Union RR here in Pittsburgh. I built them to use on the route that I was building but that has gone by the wayside. Just looking to see if there is any interest out there for these cars before I package then and do the upload.
