i need to ping the user community about searching and finding while editing a scenario

i have asked the question to vendor tech support but only response i received is where to find the manuals; i have read the manuals back and forth so many times there are no info about this

i have several consists and drivers and markers in various places which are far apart on a route; it is extremely tedious to navigate in the world using the shift-arrow keys to select the items i which to edit (driver commands, destination markers, etc...)

i own a competitive product where as in the editor i can press a key and comes up a list of all named items in the world and i can search then select which instantly places me at the location of the item even hundreds of miles apart in the world

how can i search for a named items in the editor?

First of all, are you asking about scenario editing or world editing? Secondly, if the former, are you using the Timetable Editor? I'm aware of the fact that some folks prefer to enter the scenario editor through the world editor ('though I cannot imagine why), but I always start in the scenario editor right away, so as not to risk modifying the route rather than the scenario. Once in the scenario editor, opening the Timetable Editor is easy. Note that although the Timetable Editor's manual (rather perversely named RW Timetable View Manual_Web.PDF) has not been updated for quite some time, but is still an essential reference for scenario writers.

, in which I'm guessing that you meant "I want" rather than "I which" (why can't computers intuit our thoughts?). While editing a scenario, I use the 2D map to navigate to the features you mention: press "9" to enter the 2D map, use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out and hold the left button down to scoot around the map. When you find what you're looking for, <Ctrl> + left click as close as possible to your target, then slide upward and toward the center until the compass opens, click the arrow icon in its lower-right corner, and, when the compass closes, right-click anywhere on the map. You'll be back in the 3D world relatively close to what you're looking for, but it's usually necessary to twist around a bit, especially if you want to orient the 3D world to the 2D map. This is still a bit time consuming, especially on those routes with long distances between points of interest for scenario writers, but it sure beats navigating the 3D world!

With some routes, navigating by using the compass fly-out is possible, but only to the extent that the route's maker has included lists of landmark locations (sorry, but the technical term escapes me just now). Navigating to markers placed at the scenario level is never possible using this method.

There is a GPS system in the game. However to use it the person who created the route must build the GPS data. A CSV file is made with coordinates in it and that is accessed through the GPS menu in editors. RW Tools has a function that will help you create them. I run TS2013 in a window, open RW Tools to the Marker function and fly around the route manually til I am at a spot I want and I cut and paste the pat and log to the RW Tools file and when done it saves it to the route's proper folder.

After you make the list up you can then choose a place and zoom there via the GPS function.

If there is no coordinates file "GPS Markers.csv", then it doesn't work.

i understand everything said, and also the fact presented fit what i am finding thru trial and error...

furthermore both of you gave me suggestions for things to research further; i will do so at first opportunity i have to continue working with all this...

to answer a few q's: yes scenario editing only (i am not a route builder that is an art outside of my skills), yes i always enter editor in scenario mode from menu (not driver mode i am over careful with things... past experiences...), yes i know where the button is to open timetable editor... yes i know about the gps but yes i agree the router builder is the one who has to put appropriate gps markers and if these dont exist then yep it dont work at all...

and yes i can navigate on 2d map but each time i right-click it goes back where i was to begin with... but i read in your comment something about a ctrl-left click and then some other steps after that... that is new info to me and i shall try that at first chance i get...

i done your steps with the left click and yes it works... much obliged i would have never known about this...

one plus i have discovered with this is that it is possible to have the 2D map at a diff location from world location as it seems these two do not change locations in sync... i find that actually helpful in some cases when adding/editing driver command destinations... just fyi...
