Using the OBB 1044 in scenarios

Unread postby OldProf » Tue Jun 28, 2016 8:00 pm

Until fairly recently, the users' manuals of rolling stock DLC sold by DTG included information about using that rolling stock in scenarios. For some strange (or another word beginning with "s") reason, DTG no longer deems this information useful, leaving a scenario writer floundering around through the Assets fly-out to find what he's seeking.

This morning, I bought the OBB1044 DLC package and, after exploring the relatively useless Academy Tutorial, decided to make a simple Free-Roam scenario that would allow me to experiment with this engine's rather elaborate controls. Then I started searching for it in the Assets fly-out -- without success. Finally, I opened one of the included scenarios for editing and discovered how to add it to personal scenarios: the unlikely key is SHG OBB1044Pack01.

The new-to-TS controls take a bit of time to learn, but I'm happy to say that the engine does not include frills such as sliding clipboards, coffee cups, or newspapers; opening windows and doors; or an elaborate start-up system. As soon as I feel confident about driving this engine, I'll try putting it to work in scenarios that are not passenger runs or long freight runs; in other words, ones that involve some shunting, even though that was not at all the 1044's primary purpose.

!!howdy!!
