Framerate woes

Unread postby shicoe30 » Sun May 01, 2011 3:40 pm

Howdy RWA,

I, being the inexperienced route builder I am, keep hitting a brick wall whilst building my Kaukaunee Western Route. A portion of the route runs through a highly developed town and I can't find that special number of assets that looks good but doesn't kill FPS. (There's probably a post about this somewhere in here, but I figure it's easiest to start a new one [sorry Hawk if there is]) The problem could lie in the fact that my computer is quite honestly a hunk of junk when it comes running anything but internet and Microsoft Word :P. But knowing theres some other people out there running RW on the same level equipment as I am, FPS savings are needed. Knowing there are experienced route builders around here, I just thought I'd ask; How you save framerate and still make things look good?

Thanks
-Erik

Well first of all: how high is your asset counter in the area? RSC once said around 1000 should be maximum, but there are routes extending that limit a lot and still run reasonably good.

One thing you can do is adjust the detail level of the placed objects, so that objects aren't shown when the user has selected a smaller draw distance. Double click an object to see which one it has set, unfortunately everyone of them has a default level that sometimes is 10, sometimes is 7. The more further it is in the background the bigger you should set the number. But it is really pain as you have to do it for every single house again and again. If someone found out a better way please share!

Another thing that helps is using grouped objects, but there aren't really good house groups available in american style I guess. The default ones from Railsimulator are best to say background scenery.

Hiya, you can get up to 2000 assets, but if you do this, avoid lot's of tiles with this much. 1500 assets per tile is a safe medium.
