It does sound very similar! I set up the blueprints for DTG, including the audio blueprints, but I left it to them to provide the actual sound samples. I did wonder whether they were genuine turbine sounds or something they'd concocted themselves with a synthesizer.

That is actually quite interesting. I will say though I think we must give DTG a pass on this one because I'm not aware of too many people that have a 60 year old gas turbine still running. Power plants and big ships always want the most fuel efficient and "next generation".

Plus unless your trying to compare an afterburning fighter jet engine with a giant airliner turbofan with a gas turbine, which is essentially a helicopter's engine anyway just bigger... I mean they mostly sound the same for the most part, right?

On a slightly different note I did find something interesting. In Oklahoma they have a gas turbine on display that was built be GE in 1949 and put out about 4600hp, it may be possible that this design could be the one used in the first and second generation 4500hp turbines. Either way, its not like there's many pictures of the guts of these machines out there and this appears to be what one could have looked like at the time.

Do you fix the X-18 at the IL Railway Museum before I die?
*!greengrin!*

It would certainly worth an airplane ticket to USA just to live audio and visioning that beauty.

The gas turbine in it will never run again. The 600hp pony engine just might, though.
