how to make the GP9 and the SD9 sound realistic

I was wondering how I would go about changing the sounds of the DTG SD9 and the RSC GP9 to sound like the engine recording of the GP38 that is available here on RWA. I know how to change code for sounds for the DTG C40-8, as those are clear to understand. The GP9 and SD9 I don't know how to apply the sounds. what would I put in place of the revuptoN6?

AFAIK, the first generation GP/SD 7/9 series used a 16 cylinder EMD567 prime mover (Diesel engine) while the second generation used a 16 cylinder EMD645 prime mover. Both non-turbocharged, but not interchangeable sound wise.

You might want to try swapping the sound samples using a high quality source, like Trainsim.com's file id 30311, 'ultimateGP9sound.zip', partially done by Anthony Woods no less. Anthony is the author of many excellent sound packs, both freeware and payware, for Railworks.

The only problem is this appears to be for Brand x not Railworks. *!sad!*

It seemed to me the OP knows his way around sounds. Swapping one sample for another is not difficult, setting up a complete sound stage probably is.
I'll do a quick check of the GP9 sound setup, I already checked the railsim.com file's contents. It has sound samples for every notch, both going up and down.

I think the sound samples are interchangeable, if not the same. Perhaps Anthony Woods authored the Railworks sounds using his MSTS sounds?
The Railworks sound stage also has unique samples for the prime mover going through the notches, both up- and downwards, so these can be swapped quite easily.
The other samples concern air hisses, spits and blasts, ventilator and dynamic brake sounds, etc. The samples being ordinary .wav files, can be played back using any audio player/editor, unlike the mutilated .dav samples Railworks uses, these need to be converted to .wav first in order to be listened to

Most of the Railworks samples could be swapped for MSTS samples. Perhaps the mix of volumes needs to be adjusted a little to achieve a convincing sound stage.

Overall, given the number of samples the default Railworks GP9 uses, it is one of the better locomotives sound wise already. I doubt much can be achieved by changing it, but I'll leave the challenge and final judgement to the OP.

That's all mostly Greek to me but OK.

the sound set that I want to use, is the 'real GP38 sounds' found here on RWA. Since a roots blown 567 and a roots blown 645 sound identical to me. To me anyway. That is the audio that I would like to use. However, I need to find out how to replace the files and code that are either revupto.dav or revdownto.dav and put in the files that are in the GP38 sounds file. so like low, medium, High, and idle. along with startup and shutdown sounds. If that makes any sense

I have my GP9 and SW1500 sounds using Justin's GP38 sounds. Works for me. *!!wink!!*

Ya'll realize that this is the same prime mover as the F7 therefore the same sound?

Xdriver, how do I go about that? How do I get the gp9 and the SW1500 aliased to the real gp38 sounds? or is there something that I'm missing?

Same engine, but resonance would be different on a carbody vs a hooded unit.

Buzz,

You have NEVER used MSTS sounds for railworks? I do it all the time! i had my Gp38s have the GP38 Sound pack from Train Sim awhile back. Was awesome.

Hmmm, how can you use MSTS sounds on Railworks locomotives, they don't have the correct folder structure and they need to be pathed correctly in the bin files, don't they?

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

after getting the ultimate gp9 sound pack from trainsim.com, I might be able to incorporate it, if I can make heads and tails of what files can be used from those that can't. Also, after getting a few SD7/9's from greatnortherner's website, I also want to modify those sounds as well to a more suitable GP9 567
