Wonder if anyone has thought of low poly models for yards?

Unread postby JohnS » Mon Oct 16, 2017 2:37 pm

I've seen low poly models in BNSF Chicago route for the passenger equipment. I was wondering if anyone has made low poly modern freight for filling yards and sidings? I know there is a low poly mixed freight on the Golden Age of Railroading site but they are older schemes. I'm thinking of low poly intermodal equipment for filling terminals. Well cars mostly but not limited to just them. Any thoughts?

Michael Stephan has some low poly models on his website. I use them all the time for yard filler.

Yes I have those. I'm mainly talking about intermodal equipment for modern routes.

I'm with you, and not just for U.S. rolling stock. However, I'd prefer to see them made by DoveTail so that they could be used in Workshop scenarios as well.

DTG won't do anything like this, they want maximum profit for very little work that will sell to the masses, especially, the British teenagers who won't have any interest in this type of content, low poly wellcars aren't high on their agenda. If you want something like this then you North Americans will have to create it yourself, just like lots of other things that we would like, such as buses, and other road vehicle packs, maintenance of way content, there's loads of stuff that we've wanted for years to enhance the game, but, never been developed over the years.

I know DTG for sure won't do anything like this that's why I wanted to bring it to the community. I know of 2 modelers that have done the low poly stuff. I wasn't sure if G-Trax had a way to reduce poly's in their double stack models and release it as yard fillers. These are just ideas. I have no knowledge of 3D modeling.
