+1 I think we always need talented independent creators and you are one Ian. !*salute*!

I'm also a fan of Ian's work, but the biggest plus (for me) is that Ian is a solid part of this community and has the support of many, plus he apparently listens to his customers and continues to improve his product.

This is not meant as a slam against RSC, but IMO they're little more than a faceless factory churning out goods without much regard for the important details. An unfortunate side effect of being a large game company.
Cheers!

+1 Ian, your locomotives and route are outstanding, I do like the Dash 8's, the SD60's, and the Routes that you make, why? Because they are highly detailed and accurate. Please don't Give up Ian, you're a great creator.

+1 Ian, I have most of your locos, and I have to say, they are most definitely better than anything RSC/DTG could produce. More detailed than anything they ave produced as well. The Seattle Route is also really good. Like Daniel said, please don't quit just because RSC/DTG made an inferior version of a locomotive you were producing. !*salute*!

Ok think we can stray back the new SD80? You guys should PM Ian if you want to convince him to keep working, not quote posts 4 and 5 quotes deep.

I noticed in the videos I've seen posted that the sound isn't muffled in the cab view... Also the cab textures appear to be very low resolution. It's baffling how they can't keep to a simple set of standards for each release.

Resuming the previous postings I conclude this release is disappointing to many buyers.
Most serious quible: no flashin ditch lights.

How are the couplers on engine and cars? "Magic" EOTD?

How are the brakes? Scripted like in the latest releases since Canadian Mountain Passes?

Are the displays/screens on the control desk OK?
Do the brake pressure indicators show in the F4 HUD?

Better wait for an update on the full price DLC, or a sale if DTG ignores our complaints.

Definitely not the way I sent them.

I decided to give it a try and it ended up being a lot better than I expected. I think the engine sounds are excellent. The horn is pretty good aside from the long loop. A few cab textures are low res but not all that bed. The model itself is really good. Compared to the last few releases, this model is much better IMO.

edit: Also the sounds are properly muffled in the cab view, the videos I watched just didn't demonstrate that well enough.

Engine sound is good. Step above existing SD70M/MAC sound
Is there a difference between inside and outside sound? DDA40X is sort of sound quality benchmark for me, with quieter inner sounds and wind noise effects

Yeah there is definitely a difference. The sounds are really excellent in this loco, it's just the horn loop that needs to be fixed. There are also new sounds for the buttons/switches which shows some nice attention to detail.

I really think this is the best release in a while, for North American stuff anyway.

Why do the emergency brakes kick in when I only set the brake to 45% the braking on this thing and the wheel slip is ridiculous
