Just after the Thanksgiving holiday I will have earned enough cash to up date my 4 year old Asus GC5270. I want to replace the mother board, CPU, graphic card, hard drive and power supply.
I will have around $1200.00 U.S. to spend. Here is the challenge, for the money available I want to build the best all around computer. Any suggestions?

It would be cheaper just to get a whole new PC. Talk to Riodeels on E bay, he does great business. Mention my name and tell him you want the same PC I just bought from him, it runs RW and most other games maxed out completely

If you have a perfectly acceptable power supply, case, optical drive, sound card, and hard drive there is no need to buy a complete machine.

If the above are in working order and do not need to be changed then all you need is:
+ CPU
+ Memory
+ Motherboard
+ Videocard

Just because you have the money doesn't mean you need to spend it all. If you're only trying to play Railworks you don't need high FPS with maxed settings, which is what $1200 worth of These things will get you.

OK, Black Friday is THE BEST day to shop, ever! New Egg will have the best deals you can find anywhere. I run an AMD CPU and Gigabyte board, others prefer Intel CPU's. I also have a high end Nvidia video card. I'll run down what I think will be good at today's prices, I'm sure other will have their recommendations. The Intel 486 was pure crap. I was an AMD fan back then, was until the Athalon 3800+ (?)... I need to check. My MythTV is still running with it after all these years... kinda tells you something. Then I found the intel 8400... and I am still using that as my current CPU. All I have been changing these years is the Videocard.

If I remember correctly Commodore made their own chips, yet another testimony to solid engineering. They made a hell of a computer.

Now that we've derailed Blue Light's Thread I was an authorized Commodore Repair Center back in the day. Great little 8 bit machines. As for the 486, there is one I maintain for a video store that is still running just fine after over 20 years. Just runs a Point Of Sale program. all I do is dust it out every 6 months. Oh, replaced the PSU about 10 years ago.

Every time I move, I take the box with my Commodore 64 and floppy drives and bring it to the curb.
Then a few minutes later I go back for it and put it in the truck. It's like an old wife, I spent so many hours on it that I can't face getting rid of it, even if i don't use it anymore.

And even though I have a perfectly good C64 emulator on my PC!
