I know this has been discussed at length, but I want you more knowledgeable folks to look at my settings and tell me if I'm doing something wrong. I'm extremely dissapointed to build an expensive computer just to run this game and still get frame rates of 14-15 on the NEC and all kinds of stuttering on WCML as it accesses the hard drive. Attached are screen shots of my settings.
ASUS Sabertooth P67 B3 TUF Edition Motherboard - ATX, Socket H2 (LGA 1155), Intel P67 Express, 1866MHz DDR3, SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 8-Channel Audio, Gigabit LAN, SLI/CrossFireX Ready, USB 3.0

1 K24-8833 Kingston HyperX Blu HS 8GB (2x 4GB), PC3-12800, DDR3-1600MHz, 240-pin DIMM, 9-9-9-27 CAS Latency, 1.5V, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, Intel XMP Ready

1 C13-2824 Corsair CP-9020003-NA Enthusiast Series TX750M Modular Power Supply - 750W, 80 Plus Bronze, Single +12V Rail

I have a very similar system and get about the same frame rates as you in some places. Overall, I find if I just use the High tick mark, not Custom, the game runs better. I also have Depth of Field, Procedural Flora and Adaptive Bloom off. TSX is on. Everything else looks OK.
Now, as to the stutter when the game reads from the hard drive, about a year or so ago I installed a RAID 0 which all but eliminated that. It's not gone completely, tho.
I've said before that if you upgrade your PC, don't do it just for RW. Do it because it's time for an upgrade.

Looks like you built a nice PC there!

Thanks, I actually did need a new computer, but playing Railworks was the driving force behind it.

I was doing tests with the Colton and Northern route last night, getting less than 14 FPS in a yard.
No change I made, either in the game or in the video setup (SLI or not, shadows or not, TSX or not, etc) had any effect.
It is a problem with certain routes and the new game engine, and I think it will only be solved with a fix from RSC.
They are currently working on such a fix, and are adding beta testers for it ( which translates to "we have no idea what the problem is so we're going to try all we can think of until something works").
When they finally find a fix, your new computer will shine.

Boy, ain't that the truth. Just glad they are finally letting the community help to fix things.

Yes, I have the same results with Ohio Steel. Nothing, and I mean nothing, I do makes hardly any difference. At lowest settings with TSX off, in Dover yard, I can maybe get 14 FPS. I SOOOO hope that the upcoming changes from RSC make a difference, because I believe you have it absolutely right...some routes with the new engine just tank. And I SO want to be able to run this great route.

Speaking of that, where do I get Ohio Steel? I make the mistake of buying the Dover Division off of Steam. There is another version, right?

Yeah, the Massillon expansion, but it's not available from Steam yet. Who knows when it will be. It will be an upgrade price when it is. You can get it from Rich, but if you got OS from Steam, you'll have to pay full price for the new version if you get it from him.

I bet you a dollar to a doughnut, if you talk to Rich and you already have Ohio Steel, he'll give you the upgrade at a discount price. I've been a friend of Rich for years and he's just a great, stand up kinda guy. Can't hurt to send him a note anyways:

I agree, the CPU utilisation that this games generate is hopeless. I'm not sure anybody is getting more than 50% CPU usage, no matter what processor they have.
On the other hand, have you tried 're-locking' your unlocked core? It's been locked for a reason - usually because the manufacturer didn't think it made the grade. It could be dragging down the performance of the other cores...
Just a thought :)

Dude, reduce your resolution. It is the single most FPS enhancing setting you can make and it doesn't ruin the game. Infact, I think it looks better when it's not super sharp.
