Starting the game from an SSD internal storage drive rather than C dri

Hi folks,
I recently installed a larger SSD within my computer which I have addressed as the D drive. I want to move my TSXX files over there to operate the game. I want to keep the C drive strictly the Windows OS.
I use a Railworks 64 shortcut on the desktop to start the game or I launch out of RW Enhancer Pro. Being unaware of procedures here, can some of you tech savvy folks offer up the changes I need to make to move the game into the D drive. I assume I have to change the shortcut property's to path the new drive rather than C drive?? Currently it is....

Is it as easy as creating a new Program Files (x86) folder in the D and moving steam into that?

I also assume whenever I download new content I will have to change the path to D when unpacking.

Thanks for any advice.

The Steam client has a function for moving a game to a different drive.

Will that move your existing steamapps/common folder and all the current modifications or will you need to copy over your steamapps/common folder over from your existing drive?

I'm assuming it moves everything. I haven't tried yet, but I will report when I do.

I just took my existing game and moved it to: E Drive (my new hard drive) Steam\All that huge bunch of files in Steam over and made a new shortcut and away you go. Is your Steam folder somewhere over there on the C: drive?

Interesting but this pic disappeared from the first post in the thread. Here's my path currently.

Results: !!det!!
I used the Steam Client application to transfer the program to the new hard drive as Chacal suggested. It transferred everything from the C drive/Program files X86 folder into a new folder called "Steam Library" on my new drive. I was concerned about losing something so I had made sure to backup everything in my alternate storage before doing anything. I can report that TSXX is completely transferred including all downloaded content and my own creations within the game to the new D drive, successfully. I ran several of my own scenarios and they operate as expected. This procedure works!

I did not transfer my TSW and it remains in the C/program files x86 folder as usual. It can be transferred similarly.

I did have to redirect RW Enhancer to the new drive when I opened it the first time to launch the game. I'll now create a shortcut on the desktop and all should be as normal.

Thanks all for the help! *!!thnx!!*

Warning to Route Builders:
Take a screen shot of your Google Maps Key if you haven't already done so. Or copy and paste the key in a safe document somewhere you will remember you put it "safe"!

When I loaded tonight to do some route editing I discovered the move of the game to the new drive, using the Steam Client, erased that key from the program. When I fired up the route editor the Google overlay just gave me the eternal blue circle spin. Luckily I had saved my key elsewhere so I reentered it and reset the overlay settings to my preferences and away I went working correctly again.

Good route building day to you all, !!howdy!!

Warning About Modded Files

Remember that file verification in Steam apparently looks at official files you have enhanced with say... a sound mod... as needing to be corrected. I made the mistake of letting Steam verify the game files and I lost my GP38 sound enhancement from LP. **!!bang!!** I had to reinstall the pack to get my sounds back. I assume I'll have to do the same with the great Krellnuts freight car sounds, too. I haven't checked yet.

Also of note is this: I back up in two places. Prior to moving the startup files from C to D drive, I kept one backup on the d drive that I had manually placed in a uniquely named folder RWBU (as in Railworks Back Up). I also back up on a drive that I only connect for the backup, in case a virus attacks the entire system at some point. The Steam Client wiped out the entire contents of that folder when I used it to transfer the game files from C to D. I guess they are looking for duplicate files too and "cleaned" up my computer for me. !*!grrr!*!

If I had it to do over, I think Buzz's copy and paste method is a safer route to follow, especially for neophytes such as myself.
