The Ryzen Cometh

Unread postby PapaXpress » Fri Apr 14, 2017 10:52 pm

So... the parts are on their way.

AMD R5 1600X
Gigabyte AX370 K5
G.Skill DDR4 16 GB 3600 C16 Ram
Corsair H100i v2 cooling

I will be reusing all the other parts of my current system.

So... let's have a little fun. I don't have a ton of free time these days (work life has doubled) but what benchmarks would you like to see? I'll do a 'before and after' and watch how much of a jump from my current Core2 Q9650, 8GB, Gigabyte P35-DS3L is *!lol!*

Here are the specs:

If you don't have a problem with downloading this benchmark and letting it download a license and run a pass or 2 I'd be interested.

https://corona-renderer.com/benchmark/? ... mit=Search

You don't need to submit times and you can delete the folders in *username/ after it's done a pass or 2.

A nice chip choice.

Corona pegged my CPU hard. Oddly Game Mode had very little effect.

It did not ask for a license... was that expected?

Yes, it should ask always before it calls home, that's how Ondra did the code.

Isn't TSW in "unlimited FPS" mode a valid test, one which results can be reproduced, measured and validated against other systems?

What Service puts the most varying load on your system?

Is that an automated test like Heaven?

I checked Corona again, and no prompt for a license. It's working just fine. See the link in my first post where I am putting all the results.

Still waiting for all the parts to arrive. Hopefully I will have it together and powered up this weekend.

My kids are excited. The parts are stacking up as the Amazonians come each day bearing gifts. They have seen me do minor tinkering with computers and both my (ancient) laptops but they have never experienced and complete from the ground up build.

I expect them to be thoroughly board after the UEFI screen comes up. *!lol!*

It is my dearest hope that the next time I see this CPU uncovered again is when I am upgrading her for a better model :D

Too many things happening with the kids tonight. I may not get to the first POST until late tonight or sometime tomorrow afternoon. Either way wish me luck.

The new system POSTed beautifully. I turned on XMP for the memory and it bumped me up to 3200 (expected for now, remember that I can run to 3600). Running at stock speeds on the CPU for the moment. Win 10 kicked in and in less than 5 minutes I was seeing my desktop... all safe and sound.

Now to install a ton of drivers.
