So I'm having an issue with my laptop. It was fine this morning but when I went to go play on it this afternoon it a couple of odd freezes, one didn't go away so I shut off the pc and started it up. Problem is that it won't load windows. Ran the HP system diagnostics and according to it the HDD is having a startup failure and a HDD failure. Now since it's a startup failure is there any way of getting around to fixing it without getting a new HDD and loosing everything I've got on this pc? Or is there a way of recovering data from this HDD? The error code I get is GU13U8-67L87R-XD7X1G-60SF03

I'm guessing this is a platter drive not a SSD.

If the Hard Drive Test displays an error message and a failure ID code, contact HP using the Contact Support tab at the top of this screen.

The customer service agent will ask you for the failure ID if they need to set up a repair or replace the hard drive. The HP failure ID contains four fields of six characters each, such as XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX, where X is an alpha-numeric character.

That is what I would do first, before you turn your HDD into a giant ice pop!

Well according to hp the drive is kaput although I should be able to recover the data most likely. After talking to a few of my pc buddies I've decided to upgrade to a new rig, found a RoG STRIX GL502VT-DH71 for a wicked price so I'm gonna go with that. Hopefully I will be able to get most of my data out of the old drive

Another case for a WD external HD that backs up every night so everything is saved.

Hindsight is 20/20 they say, lesson learned there. I'm just hopingI can recover my stuff for RW.

You should be able to place the drive from the old system into a external drive case and recover some, possibly all of your files. I suspect the error involved was due to the MBR failing or being corrupted on the platter drive. I've been down this road before and it's the main reason all my systems have a SSD as the primary drive.

I also subscribe to a Cloud service that gives me 1TB of storage and that is where all my key files are backed up. That has been a lifesaver more times than I care to count.

If it is the Master Boot Record, that is repairable, just google how to do it.

In ye olde tymes I used to solve a lot of my customer's problems by typing FDISK /MBR.
I wonder if that still works.
