Did you update your audio drivers recently?
Also; do you have Windows 10? I ask because it will force driver updates...
If you are on Win 10 you can open Programs and Features and look on the left of installed updates. See if a driver got installed.
It may be a driver update that isn't audio. Sometimes Nvidia drivers bork things in the audio dept.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

Update audio drivers: No,and never have touched them, unless windows 10 auto installed an update that made it weird.
Realtek built-in mic/speakers on windows 10 haven't been screwing up until last night. The only updates that have been installed is just windows updates and security updates.

Zek
You really haven't given us much to go on. :D
Are you using onboard sound.
Are you using a Sound card. which one?
Are you using Realtek audio drivers - up to date (if using win 10?)
Have you installed the audio drivers via the NVidia video card driver install (should be dated 2/12/2015) Geforce 359.06
Windows key + R enter dxdiag - OK - what if anything is reported?
Have you "rolled back" a driver recently?

Regards
