With one exception, I've never found a video game or simulation that interested me other than the usual three rail simulators, of which I have abandoned two, leaving only RW2 (soon RW3) on my computer.
That one exception was somebody-or-other's Roman Empire simulation. I taught theatre history for many years and thought it might be fun to be able to order up a Roman theatre for a city I'd constructed. After installing the sim and reading a lot of the instructions (which should have been written in Latin, of course), I gave it a try. Shortly after the simulation began running, along came some people and started to set up a village. While I hunted for various key combinations to figure out how to make the village grow, along came some other folks and burned the village to the ground. I think the DVD is still lounging around my desk somewhere, but the sim is long gone from my hard disks.
Conclusion: railroading is much easier than empire building.
