Need Information on Mother Board and CPU

Unread postby ET44C4 » Thu Jul 20, 2017 6:47 pm

After purchasing a new graphics card, I found out that my mother board for my PC no longer works (after taking it to Best Buy/Geek Squad). What I would like to know is what kind of mother board and CPU would I need that would run TS smoothly at max settings and that would be compatible with both my PC and my graphics card (reasonably priced if possible). Here are my PC specs:

Manufacturer: lenovo
Model: Lenovo Windows7 PC (Machine Type: 7747)
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G620 @ 2.60 GHz
(RAM): 6GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System

Graphics Card:

Radeon RX 470

Note: I also purchased a new power supply.

Thank you

Anything will be compatible with your card as long as it supports PCIe.

The more burning question is going mboard+cpu+ram.

This isn't the end-all be all of information, but it'll give you a good idea of how to approach this.

A Intel i5 is way plenty on the CPU front for TS2017. This has been out a while so the price should be reasonable: MSI Z97 GAMING 5 ATX Motherboard ‑ LGA1150 Socket. Any good 600W to 750W power supply will more than do the job.

The other problem could be that it being a Lenovo the motherboard might be proprietary to the case and and aftermarket motherboard may not fit.

One would suggest measuring before buying.

It's a real pain to upgrade a OEM PC.
They are made without documentation for the wiring of switches, power leds etc.
I tried to look that PC of yours up and I think it is an older Idea Center. It looks a bit small, so it may or may not use a ATX, Mini ATX, Micro ATX board.
As has been said already, it may use a proprietary motherboard.

These and other reasons are why I started doing home builds. They are cheaper in the long run, run better on standard drivers, and are relatively standard for upgrading.
Plus the owner of a home built will have the documentation for everything.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

Thank you for your input. I have yet to find the time to research everything, but all of the information that everyone has provided will certainly be helpful.
