Kaby lake is supporting some new tech natively on the CPU.
You can build a great machine with Skylake, but why not go with the latest?
Skylake won't be supported well much longer, now that Kaby Lake is out.

Now that's some serious geek speak. Is this English? !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*!

Technoese *!greengrin!*
It boils down to support, like BIOS updates etc. From what I've been reading, Kaby Lake will run good on a Z170 chipset, but it is designed around the newer Z270 chipsets.

I have to admit though, the one advantage of going with Skylake, is it's a mature design now.
Whereas a person can expect some hiccups the first 6 months of Kaby Lake. Nothing major will go wrong, just some weirdness. Little things, like USB 3.1 ports, that might run at 3.0 speeds at first.
That's the kind of kinks a person might get with a new CPU coming out.
I've been itching to upgrade, but I think I'll sit on things awhile and see how Canon Lake i5s and the new Zen CPUs from AMD come out.

In case some didn't know, Kaby Lake just came out and is at places like Newegg.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

Yes, and now I actually understand it! I'm having a heck of a time picking a motherboard and RAM. Too many choices.
I also need to look into these M.2 drives. Jerry seemed to like his.

Anyway, thanks to all for your input.

Found this very interesting vid on YT about thermal imaging of a PC. If your looking seriously at a Samsung 960 PRO NVMe M.2 ( or similar ) drives and given the costs associated with the larger capacity models,( here in OZ the 2TB is around $1600$ ) this is well worth thinking about when choosing a new motherboard and cooling solutions. The heat at the M2 mount point is incredible !*hp*! . Look for a board with the mount somewhere other than above the GPU slot.

Thanks for posting that, it's very interesting. I'm going to pass on the .M2 for now but will keep this in mind for the future when looking at motherboards. *!!thnx!!*
