Steam Issues... Anyone else...? Any recommendations?

Unread postby TVRRMAN » Wed Sep 25, 2013 3:27 pm

Ok guys,

I'm hoping someone here has seen this happen, or has had it happen to them before, and found a solution to it.

As of last night, while trying to work on several projects which will remain unnamed at this point, I went to pull up the editor, and was greeted by a message saying "Steam - Error" Could not connect to steam network. This could be a problem with your internet connection, or the steam network. Please Contact Steam support for more details...

I have gone through and checked my internet connection (which is working properly) and verified I cannot even log into steam at all, much less get past this message. Technical support claims there is a backlog of technical support tickets... so I am stuck in line waiting for help.

Has anyone had this happen before? If it was fixable, how was it fixed?

Thanks in advance,

I used to get that when my internet connection was screwey. You can't log into your Steam account at all? If someone had hijacked your account you would get a different message about incorrect user name or password.

You could delete then reinstall the Steam client. First copy your "steamapps" folder to another spot on your hard drive. That has all your Steam games and your custom made RW "stuff". Once you reinstall Steam, paste that folder back in and you won't lose anything.

Steam Support has taken two to three days in the past to reply to me, that's about standard to them. Could also just wait and see if the connection issue clears up. I guess Steam didn't offer to run in offline mode when you tried to open it? I just quit then logged back on to my Steam client it works fine for me. !*don-know!*

Chris,

Thanks for the help. It seems to have worked. I deleted my entire steam folder (except the railworks folder) and forced it to do a thorough repair. I'll dump the Railworks folder back when it's done reinstalling. All's good though so far. I can now sign back into steam.

Thanks again. *!!thnx!!*
