It was actually about 2 weeks ago, but I've been hired on the Sierra Northern Railway in Woodland, CA as a Student Conductor. Its only part time, but being paid to work with trains is amazing. I'm in training right now which helps to already be a certified brakeman from another railroad.

The Sierra Northern has its HQ and main yard in Woodland and runs over the old Sacramento Northern Woodland Branch to West Sacramento where we interchange with UP. The Sierra also switches the Concord military base at Port Chicago as well as has a branch in Oakdale and in Mendocino running the Skunk Trains.

Because of its relatively small length but many switching opportunities, Im thinking about creating the Sierra Northern Railway, Woodland Division as it stands today for our lovely simulator.

I'm happy to say that on Saturday night I passed my check-run and am now a conductor! It'll probably be a couple months before I can go for Student Engineer.

It's been over a year, but on October 28, I passed my check ride and I'm now an engineer! Still only part time, but changes in my life made sure it stays that way. I'm not too worried though. I still get to have fun on the railroad, get paid to do it and still have my government job to pay the bills.
