I thought I would post a few pictures of the Frankfort, IN roundhouse. This building is unfortunately rotting away with almost no chance of being restored, along with the history of a major yard on the NKP.

That is such a sad scene. I am obsessed with railroad history, and seeing the roundhouse in that condition is so depressing. Do you know who owns the property it sits on?

At least it still stands. It is very interesting to find these great pieces of railroad history still out there. A whole lot of Norfolk and Western remains are scattered about along the NS Norfolk District.

Yes, Norfolk Southern does still own the property. An organization wanted to save the roundhouse about 10 years ago, however they didn't have the money since a lot of their profit was donation. NS also didn't really like the idea of have a rail museum right at the mouth of a railyard, however were willing to oblige. So now the building sits waiting for the day NS (or nature) tears it down, along with the coal tower just west of it.

Some pictures of an old Norfolk and Western building in Suffolk, VA. I was able to get permission from the feed store employee to get some pictures inside.
