Burlington Northern Pacific !*roll-laugh*!

Honestly i can thinkg of the Norfolk Burlington & Pacific actually being the name. Imagine that merger. NS, BNSF, And the UP. Three Mega roads into one! A new Burlington Northern!

Now what would the paint be between the NB&P and the potential CSX-CP merger?

I may be a bit out of the loop here but I fail to see how this would benefit anything or anyone.

Buzz, as far as I can tell, there will be no benefit except to the shareholder. But, during CP's play for Norfolk Southern last year, Tim Rose of BNSF publicly stated that if Harrison wants to play merger roulette, then he is game and has money to put in the pot. It was that speech, plus some signs of interest from UP, that were partially responsible for killing the CPNS merger. The gubment got very interested at the prospect of a new round of mergers that could potentially pare down North America's class one's to two or three mega-roads.

But hey, this part is conjecture. Harrison still has to get in, and at this point, with all of the "Make America Great" again rhetoric, Canada might be just as cool towards a merger with an American railroad right now as we are at the prospect of a canadian road owning an American one.

I'm not even sure of the benefit to the shareholders. There seems to be no value added and no real efficiencies to be gained by sticking these two routes together but what do I know.

I find it hard to believe CP and CSX would merge, would the FTC even approve such a thing? However, if Hunter gets in at CSX I'm sure we will see all the cost cutting, reduce operating ratio rhetoric that took place at CP and CN. "Precision Railroading!"

According to Trains Magazine, just the prospect of Harrison's arrival caused CSX shares to jump 30%. The majority of shareholders do not care what CSX does to make money, they simply want a return on the money they have gambled on the company. For example, I don't particularly care about the companies that my retirement is invested in, unless they are not increasing the amount of money in my account! Now sure, there are a few investors who are railfans and who don't want to see this go through, but they are few and far between.

I don't know how many people know this, CP, under Harrison, went after CSX two years ago. CP was rebuffed and everything was quietly swept under the table and not widely reported until CP targeted NS last year.

It is official, the Cheshire Cat is in the house. Good news for the shareholders.

And yeah, billionares have to eat too!

Seriously though, if you do have any railfan business to do with CSX, such as acquiring licensing, if it's not to late already, now is the time to do it. Back when E-Hunter was CEO at CP, I couldn"t even get anyone to return a phone call or email concerning their licensing, even after using their official licensing website.
